On point about the food stamps and San Francisco demographics. When COVID shut my stuff down in 2020 I got a ton of them, more than I could possibly figure out how to use on food. I would have been buying caviar at that Whole Foods if I had lived there! A single person with rollbacks would not get as much but these problems are not for lack of money to buy food. I saw a video in the aftermath of a Wal Mart that was ransacked. The saddest part of the whole thing was that although electronics and many others looked like apocalypse had struck, the produce aisle was pristine and untouched. Not a single banana or apple had been moved from their careful arrangements. This is not the sign of starving people. Just per verse incentives that lead the bad to get ahead by being that way

It's always a farce when lefty journos decide to take on the vile corporate practices of... trying to keep workers safe.

I remember about a decade back an article (hopefully ironic) popped up in The Stranger about the indecency of liquor stores to close due to a dusting of snow on the same day the author decided to blow off work due to a dusting of snow and get drunk. What clicked in my brain was that while journos might be able to afford trendy digs near their work on First or Capitol Hill, most liquor store clerks (I was well acquainted with a few) would be commuting from somewhere way the fuck out of town, maybe as far as Monroe, if not Sultan or Gold Bar, and they'd be leaving early for that commute with more than a dusting at elevation and likely sheet ice below it...

Champagne socialism can't peer past it's political excesses to see the real workers.

Somehow an emotional switch needs to get flipped in regular people to treat Communists with the same contempt as Nazis but with their body count already being so high and with them already being responsible for so much suffering I’ve got no idea what would do it.

Very impressed with your "news" feeds. So much i'm missing on the idiot box ("cable").

CHina's meddling in Hong Kong is the biggest sign of idiocy from a wannabe superpower and wannabe global currency. HK was a God-given gift for the offshore RMB. Step 1 for internationalization of the RMB, and they had it in their lap. International faith in HK law is a MUST HAVE item for RMB future, and China did inherit international faith in HK! (past tense!). But sure enough, they are going to ruin it like idiots on rails.

Great take on the Whole Foods issue, thanks. And the Chronicle just ran an unbelievable article on lawlessness in Oakland, profiling the Alameda Cty DA and the (implicitly fascist and white supremacist) “debate” about her pro-criminal policies.

To attempt understand and point out how the world ackshoolly works?! 😱 These days, it's egregiously -ist & -phobic to invoke the basic common sense 'back here on earth' 🤪

Since I don't follow the news: Is this REALLY one of the first times the left-wing media is starting to take crime seriously? Of the COUNTLESS atrocities in SF over the last few years, have they almost always been on the wrong side of the matter? If so, that is shocking on many levels.

Also: When is SF going to make political changes? How is the new DA doing?
