Can't believe how well written this post was. I wrote today on the Vindman posts where he made the Musk-Geobbles comparison you alluded to and it is crazy to me how they aren't called out more for their bullshit. But it's a method they use too well. They have to rile up their followers, get em mad, and sick them on the problem. The oppressor. Musk is the bad guy who is chipping away at the power grab these influencers have had for years. And as the Twitter files continue to reveal truth, I hope it goes way deeper and that we are 1.) aware of what can happen with this corrupted power and 2.) do as much good as we can when the pendulum swings our way.
The fourth and fifth estates made an unholy alliance with the unelected bureaucrats of the deep state. None of them are elected, but have become more powerful than any elected official. They executed a digital coup and decapitation of a sitting president. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and our favorite billionaire shitposter is shining bright in these dark times.
Twitter being cloned? Meaning by the other tech giants? Can they change? Voluntarily back out of illicit relationships? It has never happened and it never will happen. Only another miracle purchase can even bring that into the realm of possibility, and then everything depends on the buyer. Solana, I subscribed because this is the platform where all real reporting will occur, and your voice stands out as particularly powerful. Keep up the good work.
I am a huge fan of radical transparency and I think it is important that we all learn how private companies influence speech. I hope this Twitter files series continues and covers all important issues, and, given my focus on China, that we get to see how the company has dealt with a whole mess of complex China-related issues over the years.
Solana, with this piece you are illustrating the next step in media's evolution. Truth, and a depth of understanding of the complex dynamics communicated clearly in a way that opens the door for further discussion, and perhaps, change. We've reached a time where someone has finally said that the emperor is naked. By questioning the “mainstream narrative” openly and from a massive platform that allows peer to peer engagement across every social strata and circle, Elon has released the truth genie from the bottle.
Maybe we get three wishes?
1. The Preservation and Revival of the 1st amendment before it is sacrificed on the altar of the unholy marriage of big tech and bigger government
2. The Return of Thoughtful Public Discourse that actually allows for debate rather than automatic algorithmic suppression of anything containing the keywords of the condemned “thought crime”
3. The Utilization of Media, Technology, and Communications to create an informed and thus empowered public capable not only of understanding, but of making itself understood
When powers this great are challenged, awoken, and unleashed, anything is possible.
I think it's high time for the Twitter cell to divide – to harness this tidal wave of creativity and give a channel to its power.
A platform. A new platform. A better platform. One platform to rule them all. One that's designed to encourage user's creativity, beautify the interface, and eliminate the mechanisms that enable mass censorship. A platform that engage's the world's natural genius to brainstorm, to engage, teach and learn from each other, all across the world - without the manipulation of perception for profit or power.
Another risk I see is that it’s not enough to be verifiably correct. You must be believed.
Twitter needs to evolve to the point it’s filtering and sense-making algorithms are so good that someone could legitimately go up to the New York Times and tell them it is irresponsible to contradict reporting from Twitter.
Captivating piece. I wonder how Twitter will play out concerning Elon's big vision and ever-to-be-redeemed X.com legacy. Even though Twitter needs some rebuilding, a potential payments integration will be a huge breakthrough for the platform. But again, that requires trust and transparency.

Great essay Mike !
I like the focus on Big Tech and just how volatile it really is.
Scary stuff.

It's time for social media to evolve.
We all knew it was broken. But dead? No.
It's alive. It's waking up.
Its got a message for the world.

Here from Elon Musk's recommendation on Twitter. Subscribed based on the opening paragraph. You nailed it.
