the tuesday report #2 // endless AI, corporate chatbot war, dueling tales of bias, who is worthy of the public microscope, and our dumbest media takes this week
I can't wait until the AI generator launches for the rest of us substackers. That'll be really useful for some of my news posts that I don't have an image handy for. Glad to know it's coming!
I hope we can be wise enough and good enough in the very short term to be prepared for these technologies. I can see a way through but am worried few others see the same path.
If technology can only do one thing, can it destroy the soul-crushing technology which is LinkedIn please? LinkedIn is the black hole of interesting thoughts, where, much like light from a black hole, no original, innovative ideas can escape from the social media platforms’ event horizon. Only the most anodyne, unimaginative, soul-crushing, corporate-lingo-ese utterances can escape the crush of its overwhelmingly tedious gravity.
Caring about the “safety” of employees is a disingenuous deflection tactic- the same one Disney execs deploy when faced with criticism of their woke films.
Jump in: let's have AI teach AI at schools instead of the dreary, irrelevant, outdated computer science content that students have to suffer through in colleges and high schools. Modern education is failing apart, how much is only evident to those in the system. An AI product that puts you in control of the bias and produces well-written and correct content would be way superior to the modern educational system that is crumbling like the last remnants of the death star falling through the sky.
Well, it could go like WestWorld or like the Orgasmatron in the Woody Allen movie Sleeper. We'll have to see. On the other hand, 30% of people 18-30 years old did not have any sex last year and the number is climbing so society is pretty messed up right now.
My understanding is the the attributation bot is just doing a fuzzy reverse image search in the dataset which was used to build the Stable Diffusion checkpoint. It will happily tell you that any random image you give it, including ones you just made by hand, was "stolen" from various source material. It's worth very little, although it might be convincing enough for a court in California to fall for it.
Gotta disagree with "Nobody working in tech should feel unsafe". Now of course nobody should be physically unsafe. (Be, not feel - nobody else can control how you feel.) But when you're working on tech that'll change thousands of lives, you *should* worry about whether the change is positive. You should feel like your reputation is on the line if your project ends up hurting people. Radical societal
transformation is not the field for people who want a safe, stress-free career. Plus, the "nobody should feel unsafe" thing is constantly used to shield powerful people from accountability, as you mentioned with the Twitter folks.
I spent about 5 minutes asking the chat bot about 9/11 and it was obvious political bias was not the problem. Being programmed to regurgitate globalist bullshit propaganda is. True AI would flood the zone with so much repressed truth. They can’t allow that so I doubt AI will ever go anywhere of significance.
Much less adjusted. It would be similar to having sex with a prostitute where you don't care at all about the other person or what they are feeling, only maybe a little worse since it's not even a person. When many people who have never been with a prostitute (I have not been) think of one, they think about Julia Roberts in her role or the ones in White Lotus. But it's not at all like that.
AI banner image missing giant hand! What’s the point anymore
I thought we were going to be able to order a sex robot. Very disappointing.
1) program twitter shitpost bot with minor conservative bias and the ability to write glowing testimonies for MyPillow
2) ???
3) take AI girlfriend out to dinner

Yup, ChatGPT is a DEI chat box.

Очень перспективно, интересно и многообещающее

Weird
