Augustus Doricko is heading toward an untimely death, from three possible sources.
First, there’s the death threats.
They’re levied at the 25-year-old founder of Rainmaker, a buzzy startup best known for cloud seeding (where a mineral is dispersed in clouds to make it rain) — with some regularity. The threats started when QAnon people got going on “chemtrails” (which is not the same thing as cloud seeding) and increased this week after floods devastated Central Texas around July 4, killing more than 100 people. Rainmaker had seeded two clouds in the state days prior. There’s no evidence that it contributed to the storm, but to terrified people on the internet, offended by the notion of a tech company meddling with the weather, none of that mattered. They wanted a villain, and Augustus, a free-spirited-looking drifter with a Palmer Luckey mullet (and a distant connection to Peter Thiel), was straight out of central casting.
