migrants keep yuppies fed while liberals romanticize the hustle of their tired african burrito messengers, ignoring the exploitation going on behind the scenes

Walk outside in New York, and you’ll likely encounter a homeless person asking for money. But that’s nothing compared to what you’ll go through at the register of a barbershop.
I like to think I’m a decent guy. I try to be generous with my money. But it’s all too much. Tips are being requested in places that would have once been unimaginable: The iPad screen of an HVAC technician. Self-checkout kiosks at the airport (who am I tipping? the airplanes?). Wedding dress shops. Hell, a friend of my mother’s was shown a tip screen at her dermatologist’s office. Modern point of sale systems offload the discomfort of soliciting tips from humans to iPad screens, making merchants all too happy to ask.
Many Americans dislike how ubiquitous tipping has become, but the trend will only continue, especially as members of both American political parties signal support for inane “No Tax on Tips” legislation. This is unfortunate, because almost no one wins in an economy of habitual fee-seeking.
