a star is born // the former president’s troubled son is making waves on 𝕏, talking about bar fights, and hinting at a presidential run. is it time to “take another crack with a biden?”
On June 28, 1914, the driver of a car carrying one Archduke Franz Ferdinand took a fateful wrong turn in the city of Sarajevo.
Unable to understand directions that were delivered to him in German instead of his native Czech, the driver drifted onto Franz Joseph Street rather than the narrow, more concealed streets of Sarajevo’s bazaar district, placing his high-profile passenger directly in the line of sight of 19-year-old eventual-assassin Gavrilo Princip.
Few would have predicted at the time that this small act — a whoopsy-daisy ‘mama mia I no speak a the German’ wrong turn in a pre-Google Map era — would set off two world wars, lead to millions of deaths, and utterly change the course of history forever.
Well, at some point in the distant future, historians might look back on May 19, 2026 in much the same way. The day Hunter Biden tweeted this:
Maybe the former president’s son — with a well-documented taste for crack rivaling Charlie Sheen’s and a well-documented taste for hookers rivaling… Charlie Sheen’s — sending out a tweet reintroducing himself to the world might be slightly less impactful than the catalyst of World War I.
But the simple, nine-word post was foreboding in another sense: it has proven to be a coming out party for a generational X-dot-com-the-everything-app user, a premonition that a once-in-a-lifetime poaster has entered our midst.
Simply put, in @HunterBiden, the freshly reactivated account of President Joe Biden’s recovering-addict son: an online star has been born before our very eyes.
