There was Jackie Robinson. Then, Jackie Kennedy. But, there is another American icon named Jackie who deserves the spotlight. While not as trailblazing or patriotic as the others, this Jackie is truly special in her own way.
Jackie Fielder is a Democratic Socialist city supervisor representing District 9 in San Francisco. She’s been consistently fighting the good fight against fascism: defunding the police, voting against more zoning for housing, trying to ban Waymos — you know, things that make SF just a little shittier. But according to the San Francisco Standard, this diva has been “[absent] from public meetings for the past two weeks.” She also checked herself into a mental hospital last week. Oh, and Fielder might be under investigation from the city attorney’s office.
…did she break the law?
Jackie Fielder’s day(s) off starts way back in February. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 9-2 to approve a multimillion-dollar contract for the RESET Center — Mayor Lurie’s proposed sobering center designed to get drug addicts off the streets. Supervisors Jackie Fielder and Connie Chan were the only no votes on the issue.
Chan’s concerns seemingly stemmed from a confidential memo via the city attorney’s office that called the center “a very high legal risk.” That afternoon, progressive outlet Mission Local published a story on the memo’s contents.
The city attorney quickly moved to investigate who had leaked the memo, as leaking the memo would violate the city’s attorney client privilege, which is very illegal. Nonetheless, it’s possible being a girlboss is too tempting to resist, because last Thursday, The Voice of San Francisco reported they “received a tip that Fielder may be ‘lying low’ due to her being suspected of the leak.” Then on Friday, The SF Standard broke that Fielder had checked herself into a mental hospital.
Would someone fake a mental health crisis in order to score sympathy points when under investigation? No. No human being has ever done anything of the sort.
